HOW IVS THINKS
From evidence to judgment.
Independent research on businesses, valuation, market structure, major index economics and research frameworks.
01
Evidence
Begin with dated observations and their sources. Distinguish reported results from guidance and interpretation.
02
Economic architecture
Understand how the business creates value, earns revenue and turns operating activity into cash.
03
Earnings denominator
State the period and accounting basis behind any earnings figure. Keep comparisons on a consistent basis.
04
Valuation
Make the assumptions visible and examine the range of plausible outcomes.
05
Recognition
Consider what evidence could make the business economics better understood, while keeping timing uncertain.
06
Falsification
Name the observations that would weaken the argument, then revisit the reasoning when evidence changes.
07
Founder judgment
Reach a dated judgment with its uncertainties in view. Preserve the record when that judgment changes.
Decision Durability.
Understand the thesis well enough to remain rational through ordinary volatility while the evidence remains intact, and revise it when material evidence breaks. Conviction comes from understanding and must remain falsifiable.
Depth before breadth.
The Institutional Underwriting Library teaches economic conversion, valuation compatibility and falsification. It is educational methodology, separate from dated research and the recurring Weekly Strategy.
AI supports. The founder judges.
AI can gather and compare evidence, preserve the research record, calculate scenarios and surface contradictions. Founder judgment determines what matters, what changed and what would break the thesis. Investment conclusions are not delegated to an autonomous stock-picker.
Low frequency is a feature of depth.
IVS is asynchronous and research-first. We publish when there is something worth saying. If the evidence has not changed, a new opinion is not required.
Research represents dated analysis and may change as evidence changes.
